Spikeball

Activity/Supplies Location: Discipleship Center Porch

Spikeball is a fast-paced and exciting outdoor game that combines elements of volleyball and foursquare. Here’s a description of how to play Spikeball:

  1. Setup:
    • Place the circular Spikeball net on the ground, ensuring it is stable and centered.
    • Divide players into two teams of two. Each team stands opposite each other.
  1. Gameplay:
    • The game starts with a serve. The serving team begins by hitting the small yellow ball onto the net, aiming to bounce it towards the opposing team.
    • After the serve, the opposing team has up to three touches (similar to volleyball) to control the ball and return it back onto the net within three hits.
    • The objective is to make the opposing team unable to return the ball onto the net or to create a difficult return for them.
    • The ball must be hit off the net on each exchange and can be hit with any part of the body as long as it stays within the rules.
  1. Scoring:
    • Points are awarded to the serving team if the receiving team fails to return the ball onto the net or if they hit it out of bounds.
    • Teams score points only when they are serving. Each successful serve that the opposing team fails to return earns a point.
    • Typically, games are played to a certain point total, such as 11 or 21, with a winning margin of 2 points.
  1. Gameplay Rotation:
    • After each point, teams rotate positions clockwise around the net. This ensures that each player has an opportunity to serve and play in various positions.
  1. Fouls and Violations:
    • There are specific rules and violations in Spikeball that players must be aware of, such as carrying or throwing the ball instead of hitting it cleanly, interfering with the opposing team’s play, or hitting the rim of the net during a hit.
    • Violations result in a point for the opposing team or a loss of possession.

Spikeball is a dynamic and energetic game that requires agility, quick reflexes, and teamwork. It can be played in various outdoor settings and is suitable for players of all ages and skill levels. Enjoy the thrilling competition and have fun playing Spikeball!
